6-8-00 - The 7" compilation CD is
almost ready and look for a new 7" sometime in the near future. You
can find out more about this stuff by reading the new update
by Cisco.
5-18-00 - We now passed the 10,000 mark!
Thanks everyone who frequents the Scared of Chaka homepage!! In
celebration of this milestone I will post a Scared of Chaka MP3 of the
fans choosing. Just let us know which tune you would like to hear by
casting your vote on the messageboard. And remember, this is only a taste of the upcoming SOC
compilation of 7" that is currently in the works by that fine gentleman Pete
the sticker guy. As reported earlier Pete & SOC are working diligently
on a new project of releasing a lot of 7" tunes, many of which are out of
print or hard to find at best, on CD. I'll have more news on this in the
near future. Also, as Cisco said himself, we are working hard to enhance
the web site. So look for some new bitchin' graphics, etc coming soon to
scaredofchaka.net.
5-6-00 - New update from Cisco was added at
12:40 AM 5-6-00. Cisco sent me this file earlier in the day but this is
the first chance I had to update the page. Sorry I didn't get this posted
earlier Cisco. Click here to read the
update.
4-24-00 - Added a new MP3 of the
week.
4-10-00 - Bad news for the Europeans...
Scared of chaka has cancelled the SOC tour due to their current situation (See
the 4-5-00 update). This is a cancellation and not a postponement.
If they do plan another tour, you'll know as soon as I do.
4-8-00 - I added the pictures I took from
Baltimore. Check out the Picture Pages to
see 'em.
4-5-00 - Uh oh... Bad news. It seems
Jonny decided to call it quits. He decided to leave the band after theshow in NYC. Check out the UPDATE from Cisco
to learn more. Needless to say the remaining shows have been cancelled for
the US tour. The good news is that Cisco says he will be sitting in front
of his 4-track recorder for the next few months. More good news is that
the 7" compilation CD is coming soon. If I had a nickle for every
e-mail I ever got asking about 7" songs I'd be a rich man.
Anyway, the CD compilation will be available sometime in the near
future. If you never heard SOC's 7 inches, you are at a loss. I'll
post more info on this as it becomes available. It truely is something
that is worth looking forward to.
3-31-00 - Wow! What a show last night in
Baltimore. I think everyone in the place had a blast- I know we did.
Scared of Chaka took the stage around 11:00 pm and immediately pounded out a lot
of old tunes as well as a few tunes from 7" 'ers. A definite
highlight was Jonnie improvising on "Horshack." Yukiko from the
Rondelles even stopped by to catch the show. I snaped a few pictures
and hope to have them posted within the next week or so. D4 was brilliant
as well. And as someone on the message board stated, they are about the
nicest people I ever met. Two other bands played... The Thumbs and Heroin
Addicts. I must admit I never heard either of the two before last night
but they sounded great. Overall, an excellent night of great music in an
outstanding enviornment.
3-29-00 - Nothing new really to report.
The city has changed in Tennessee...
I'll be catching up with the guys tomorrow at the show in Baltimore so I'll have
a lot to post on Friday.
3-23-00 - Scared of Chaka is currently on tour
in case you didn't know already. If the venue isn't listed on the TOURS
page for your hometown, I can't help you out. I suggest calling
local record stores, venues etc. If I hear anything, I'll be sure to
post it ASAP. I'll also be seeing the guys next thursday in
Baltimore. I'll definitely have an interesting update the following
day.
3-7-00 - The European tour dates have
been updated. Check out the tour dates page for more info. Keep in
mind that the tour doesn't start until May 6th. Also added a few more
photographs. Check out the Pictures page to see them.
2-24-00 - Updated tour dates again. Check
out the latest updates if you are planning to see SOC in the next few months.
2-17-00 - Added an MP3 of a band called the
Proteens. Check out the MP3 page for more info.
2-16-00 - More TOUR DATES have been added as
well as venues. Check out the TOUR DATES page for more info.
2-13-00 - Added a link to a great site full of
great punk info. Check out House of
the Rising punk. Also, a few more pictures were added.
Check out the picture pages for more info.
2-11-00 - I had some server problems last night
so I couldn't make all the updates I wanted. I just now noticed that the
Denver & Albuqueruque changes uploaded successfully. In other
news... Pete the Sticker
Guy posted a couple MP3's and allowed scaredofchaka.net to link to them.
Check out the MP3 page to download the tunes and check out his page at www.stickerguy.com.
2-10-00 - Tour Dates have been added again for
the second time in as many days. Denver & Albuquerque have been addedfor the month of March.
2-9-00 - TOUR DATES have
been posted! These dates are subject to change so keep checking
back. Looks like Scared of Chaka will be starting a U.S. tour (with D4) in
Austin on March 18th. The U.S. tour will end on April 2 in Jersey.
There will be a few shows for the home town folks after the U.S. tour.
Folks in Europe... Look out because the guys will be doing a European tour
starting in May! Check the Tour Dates page for more
info.
2-7-00 - Only change is that I added
Sludgeworth's "Angry Man." Check out the MP3 page.
2-5-00 - New MP3 of the week by the
Ramones. Check out the MP3 page if you're interested. Since I'm
already on the topic of the Ramones... They are rumored to go back into the
studio this fall and record three songs (and possibly tour) for some punk rock
movie. The kicker here is the line up... Joey, Johnny, DEE DEE, and
Marky. Yep, the rumor has Dee Dee back in the studio with the boys.
Anyway, check out www.punkbands.com
for more info on this. I know this isn't even remotely related to Scared
of Chaka but the Ramones, at this point, have been a part of me for more
than half the years of my life... That's 15 years for the folks keeping
count. Also, if you are a Ramones fan, check out http://kufat.dhs.org/ramones/
for a killer list of Ramones rarities as well
as bootlegs in MP3 format.
1-31-00 - The stickers are all gone- no need to
send any more E-mails. And wow, what a response! If I get more
stuff in the future, I'll be sure to pass it along to the fans.
1-29-00 - Added 13 new pictures from December's
tour. Check out the Pictures Page. Also, I have 5 free stickers
available... The first 5 people to email
me with their mailing address gets 'em. No fee, no
hassles. Just take 'em. No, I won't use, sell, or do anything
with your mailing address. No scams... Ron just sent me a bunch of
stickers the other day and I thought it would be nice to pass them onto SOC
fans. They look like this:

1-25-00 - I added a few more live
photo's. Check out the Pictures page to
check them out.
1-19-00 - Scared of Chaka will be playing the
South by Southwest Festival in Austin on St. Patricks day weekend. Also
playing the festival will be the Weakerthans and D4.
1-12-00 Yikes! I just noticed that I had
been typing 99 instead of 00 for the previous announcements. Oh
well, it's fixed now. Onto better news... Cisco has posted a
Scared of Chaka update. Click here to get
the scoop straight from the Pakuni's mouth. It's chock full of great stuff
and goings on of your favorite punk band.
1-11-00 - I had some free time tonight so I sat
down and fixed the Y2K bug in the java script on the Tour Dates
page. The calendar should now show the year 2000 for both Netscape
as well as Internet Explorer. Just in time too... SOC is touring
Europe next month. No, I still don't have the venues. Hang
tough- it shouldn't be long. Also, Omar sent me two more Pictures
from Gilman last month. Check out the Pictures page. Thanks a bunch
Omar for the fantastic shots.
1-2-00 - I added some new photo's mainly from
Scared of Chaka's west coast tour last month. Check out the PICTURES
page to check 'em out.
1-2-00 - Haha ahahaa. Looks like Microsoft's Internet Explorer couldn't
handle my tour dates calendar I posted the other day. It worked fine back
in '99 but on the first of 2000 it rolled over to 3900. Hey what can I
say... Except use Nestscape 4 + instead of Internet Explorer. Good
ol' Microsoft. They're like the governmet- Too big and can't get anything
done correctly.
12-31-99 - Too much free time on my hands lately... I added a new calendar
to the tourdates page. No dates are listed for the upcoming European tour
yet... as soon as I get 'em, I'll post 'em.
12-30-99 - Only one more day until armeggedon! I Hope everyone has a safe
and happy New Year holiday. Since it is a holiday, I've been taking
advantage of my free time and redid a few graphics on the web page. I hope
ya like 'em. Some folks sent me some KILLER pictures of SOC in action
today. I'll post them as soon as a few more come through.
12-29-99 - Scared of Chaka will be touring
Europe Feb15 through March15 2000! I'll post the tour dates as soon as
they become available.
12-21-99 - No real news other than SOC has
finished their west coast tour. East coast folks keep your fingers crossed
for SOC hitting your hometown this spring...
12-13-99 - Yikes! I didn't realize that I
haven't updated the page recently. I figured I better post something since
SOC is currently on tour... I haven't heard from the guys which is good-
Probably means they are having a good time reeking havoc on the west
coast. If anyone has caught one of their shows during this recent tour
we'd love to hear about it. Let us know via the message board. Oh
yeah, I know the MP3 of the week has been up for more than a week but I
want everyone to be able to download it. It's a great tune only available
on 7".
12-3-99 - Ooooops. I forgot to update thenews page over the past few weeks. Anyway, in case you didn't figure
it out, Scared of Chaka is doing a west coast tour starting December
10th. Check out the tour dates page for more info. From my
conversations with the guys, they seem really excited about hitting the
road in a few weeks. I also cleaned up the links page and added a few band
links.
11-9-99 - Scared of Chaka is gonna be heading
out on tour again on December 10th through December 20th. So far it looks
like they'll be in Reno on December 15th and San Fran on the 16th. I'll
post more details as they become available. Sorry, no MP3 of the
week yet. The next MP3 will definitely be a Scared of Chaka song.
Any requests? Also, I added a really good SOC interview from before
the guys hit the road on their summer tour. Check it out here.
10-20-99 - I added a new page- Song of the
week. Click on the MP3 button to find out what this is all about.
9-22-99 - Updated the Articles page with an
interview from a guy named Sherbert. He did an interview with Scared of
Chaka after their show in Philly at Stalag 13 this past June. Check it out
here.
9-5-99 - Just a little update on what the guys are up to... Cisco is
on the east coast hanging for a little while... Ron is in Europe touring
with the Drags... Damian is AWOL...
8-5-99 - Put the LiveRotchies
link back on the links page. Sorry guys, I don't know why it was
deleted in the first place. Just a silly mix-up- Nothing personal.
Also re-added the cool Chaka & Sa graphic on the front page. I don't
know how this one got lost either.
7-31-99 - Sorry for the lack of updates lately
folks. I'm really EXTREMELY busy lately. The reason- I'm
getting married in a week. On to more relevant stuff... judging from
the email I get, seems the fans were really happy with SOC's last
tour. Seems to me the guys picked up some new fans along the way
too. That's great 'cos it's about time the boys get recognized. Oh
yeah, Ron, D, & Cisco... Sorry we missed you the second time around
but we'll try to make it out your way next time.
7-12-99 - Not a whole lot of SOC news lately. They'll be finished their
tour soon hopefully everyone got a chance to see the guys. I am in the
process of changing the layout of the web page which is just one of the many
reasons I haven't updated the page much recently. Anyway, coming
soon... No more frames! I personally don't like frames and honestly don't
know why I used them in the first place. Anyway, hopefully they'll
be gone soon. I'll also add a few bells and whistles.
6-30-99 - First off... tour dates that are
posted could very well be wrong. I know SOC was supposed to be in Philly
last Friday night but actually showed up on Saturday (More on that later).
Anyway, the best advice I have is use my tours page to get an idea of what
area SOC will be in and then make some phone calls. I do know they will
not be following the Sub-City tour down south- at least not to Florida
anyway. If I get any more info, I will pass it along as soon as
possible.
About Saturday... we headed out to Philly
on Saturday evening but since I'm from Baltimore I didn't show up until SOC was
carrying their gear outta Stalag 13. I just missed them by 1/2 an
hour. The buzz from the crowd was that they put on a great show and were
surprised to see SOC at the show head lined by Fifteen. Also couldn't
figure out why SOC played first that night. Anyway, after the boys
did an interview with someone for a zine (he's supposed to get me info) we hung
out and talked web geek stuff, music, and their current tour. I
gotta say the wear and tear of the tour really didn't seem to have that much of
an effect on them even though they said being on such a rugged tour was kinda
tough. They might have been a little worn out but they didn't show
it. We all headed across the street to a local bar and got to know one
another. The guys are really fun to hang with and had some interesting
stories and info. They also thanked me for doing a page for 'em which made
me feel good to be appreciated. After a few drinks and some goofing, Cisco
actually clued me in on some of his lyrics- Sorry I can't remember 'em but
I do remember that "Shake yer tit" was not part of Make It
Happen. I know this won't be a popular statement but... I actually like
the fact that some of the lyrics are a mystery. It makes for more
interesting listening.
Anyway,
I do know that SOC will be back in Philly this Saturday night (July 3rd) at the
Khyber Pass. Hopefully we'll be able to head back to Philly and actually
see the show this time.
6-18-99 - I got a pleasant surprise
yesterday as I opened my mailbox. The guys from the Real Swinger, sent me
a copy of the SOC / Real Swinger 7". SOC does a great rendition of
the Mummies tune, "Come on Up." And there is also a basement recording
of "Dimes & Quarters" that really rocks. I am
addicted to the Real Swinger tune, "Addicted to my girl." I can't get it outta my head. Poser is a more upbeat tune too. Kudos goes
out to The Real Swinger as well as SOC for a great record. This 7" is
really fantastic. I'll get some info on how to order it posted ASAP.
You don't wanna miss out on this one.
6-9-99 - Sorry about the lack of updates
lately... Been real busy again. I added the split with The Real
Swinger. I must apologize for the delay on posting this. The Real
Swinger sent me this info at least a week ago. Anyway, check out the
DISCOGRAPHY page for more info.
6-2-99 - SOC says the tour has been going great so
far and they are having loads of fun. I hope to have some photo's posted soon. Looks like San Diego is out for this tour...
6-1-99 - The guys from the Real Swinger sent me the
artwork for the SOC/Real Swinger 7" and I hope to have it posted by the end of the
week.
5-28-99 - The tour dates have changed again!
Looks like Buffalo has been cancelled.
5-17-99 - Updated the links page. Also,
SubCity records has a Sampler in the works. It's full of great bands like
Fifteen, Dillenger Four, Damnation, and an unreleased tune, "Into
Them" from Scared of Chaka.
5-15-9 - The tour dates have been updated. Hope
to have venues added soon.
5-14-99 - I'm just recovering from a hard drive crash
so if things are a little flakey with the page bear with me while I tidy up. I just
got a preview copy of "Tired of You" today. My first impression- Sounds
great! I'll leave the review to others. Like I said I only heard it once and
it sounds good to me. But then again, I admit I'm biased. Give it a
listen yourself... Or at least one song anyway. Follow this link to hear "All My Friends are Ghosts" from the new album Tired of You.
The guys from The Real Swinger say the split 7" with SOC is complete. Hope to
have a graphic of the cover real soon. They sent it to me but like the meathead I
am, I left it at work.
5-6-99 - There have been some changes in tour dates.
Check out the Tours page for the updated schedule. Also added a couple links.
One of which is Science Project
Records. You can get 3 of the 7" 'ers there.
5-3-99 - Sorry 'bout the lack of updates lately...
Been real busy. SOC just finished up the first leg of their tour/vacaton. Must
be nice being able to visit Hawaii once a year huh? Cisco says they had a blast and
played some really cool places with some other good bands thus far. I can't wait
until they hit the east coast. Don't forget, May 25th is the day for the new album.
It's called "Tired of you" and will be released by Sub City.
4-11-99 - The new message board has replaced
the "Inside the Web" board. I left a link on the new message board in case
ya wanna check out the old message board. In otber news... The web counter has been
reset. This should never happen again.
4-4-99 - The new album, Tired of You, will be
released on May 25th! I also added tour dates. Looks like SOC will be on the
go starting in April. Check out the "TOURS" page.
3-19-99 - Updated tour dates. Added a link to Dork Boy Punk Videos. I
just checked this page out briefly tonight. This guy does have a SOC show on tape as
well as a boat load of other punk shows. I'm gonna try to get my hands on it.
I'll give ya more details after I see it.
I'm also working on a new message board. This one is homemade so it won't have the
cheesy banner advertisement. The bad news is that all the previous messages will be
lost. Click here to check out the new board
and lemme know what you think.
3-14-99 - Re-posted the 7" tunes from the
first 7". They should work now. Sorry for the mixup. Oh yeah,
looks like SOC will be doing shows in Hawaii. I think the dates are April
16th and 17th. After Hawaii SOC will be heading to San Francisco. I will
confirm the dates within the next few days. As stated before, a North American tour
is gonna kick off in June.
3-8-99 - No real Scared of Chaka news...
Just added some stuff to the web page. I added all the tunes from the first
7". Click here to listen to all 4 songs in WAV format.
I will no doubt have more 7" tunes posted in the near future. I also
finally got around to posting a few interviews from around '96 or '97. Check out the
articles page if ya want to read them.
3-2-99 - Luca from The Real Swinger reports that the
artwork for the new split 7" been completed. Looks like May is still going to
be the release date.
2-17-99 - If you're reading this, chances are
you realize the new address. I have a ton of space for this page... I guess I
should start posting a bunch of tunes huh?
2-13-99 - www.scaredofchaka.net has been registered!
Look for this in the near future!.
2-8-99 - Brand new SOC interview just posted.
2-7-99 - Added "Hot dog on a stick" in WAV format.
2-4-99 - The New Scared
of Chaka album will be out in May on "Sub City." It's Hopeless' new
label. The 7" with The Real Swinger should be out by May as I stated earlier.
SOC does 2 songs on it... A cover of the Mummies tune "Come on Up" and the other
is an original. Can't wait to hear it.
2-2-99 - It's true! SOC has finished recording a
new album. No title, as well as release date, yet. Ron says, "This recordis gonna smoke somebodys ass. Watch the fuck out!" Sounds good to
me. The Split with The Real Swinger should be available by May. I personally
haven't heard anything from The Real Swinger but I have heard only good things about
them. I'm gonna try and order their CD (VML Records).
I have been getting a few requests from people asking
about purchasing SOC stuff. I don't personally push their merchandise but I found Interpunk.com a great site for ordering all kinds of
good music, shirts, etc. Also, drop Pete the Stickerguy a message. He'll
know where you can get their stuff. You can get to his site by clicking here. As for
SOC 7" 'ers... I'm pretty sure you can still order the SOC/Traitors split (my local
record store still had a copy last time I was there). Word Salad, The Flake
split, and Automatic are still available too (I think).
One last thing... Seems there have been quite a
few folks dropping by the past few weeks. I guess the word is out. So thanks
everyone who dropped me an E-mail or message board note stating you like and appreciate
the page. Oh yeah, we can all thank Brian, of the Pet Peeves, for
A LOT of the pictures and all of the record reviews.
1-11-99 - Added
"Land of the Lost," from the Been There Done That 7" and
"Cerrado," from the Sucker Born Every Minute 7" in .wav format. Click
here to listen to "Land of
the Lost" and here to listen to "Cerrado."
1-3-99
- Happy New Year! Scared of Chaka to
return to the studio to begin work on a new album! Don't know for sure about thisbut lets keep our fingers crossed.
12-10-98
- Added more pictures and record reviews.
11-23-98 -
Brian, of the Pet Peeves, reports that Scared of
Chaka won the "Best Punk Band" for the 2nd year straight. The award
was given by The Weekly Alibi (free ABQ alternative newspaper).
11-16-98 - Scared of
Chaka will be doing a show in Albuquerque on November
29th with Weird Love Makers
- SOC just finished recording a split 7" with an Italian band,
"The Real Swinger." No release date yet...
- Also in the works... A few German compilations for different zines
and labels.
- Added the SOC/Flake 7". I haven't heard this one yet. With any
luck, the little lady will have it under the tree for me this year.
10-31-98 - Sound clips
(WAV format) have been added.
10-26-98 - All 7"
'ers have been added.
